XP Pro Problem :(

My Windows XP Pro keeps rebooting itself. I don't know what the problem is. I made sure it wasn't grounding out or anything. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? Any help would be much apreciated. Thanks.

Could be infinite loop bug, but with the current info you give I can't tell. Try going into My Computer > Right click menu > Properties > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery settings > Automatically reboot (uncheck this). Then tell us what you get on the BSOD.

Thanks. I don't know why it does it. Even the first day I installed it, it did it about 4 times. It's a pain. I will tell you what the BSOD says when I get one. Which I know I will. Thanks.

I am experiencing the same problem as you do. Winxp reports errors almost everytime I boot up my machine. Sometimes Winxp locks up (keyboard not working and mouse pointer frozen) for no appearant reason. Othertimes, winxp reboots without warning, and then reports that Geforce 2MX 200/400 may be responsible for the instability after rebooting.
My conclusion, Winxp is sh*t.

The problem seems to lie in DirectX 8, not Windows XP directly. I've had that problem you describe on a Windows 2000 Pro system.

Well, how can I fix DirectX. Now that I set it to where it shows the BSOD everytime it says stop then the code. It is REALLY annoying. I mean I click to open a program and it just goes out. It never did it with Windows 98 and XP is suppose to be more stable. I mean come on.

You could boot up in safe mode and try reloading Directx 8.1 using this Directx

Another possibility is hardware related. A couple of things to check:

What is your CPU temp? I had a similar problem on one of my systems and found my HSF needed cleaning.
Any possible shorts? Once installed a motherboard and left a screw underneath it - would short intermittently and cause a reboot.

Before you do anything very drastic, try disabling acceleration in Display properties > settings> advanced> troubleshooting. If it is the infinite loop bug, the crashes will go away after you do this.

Had the same problem where there wa snone in WINME. Try lowering the heat to your CPU. Drop the voltage and/or speed. I had the same set up and my old 300W could not pony up to the task. I dropped to 1200mhz and I was kosher.

I just went through and checked what all my devices where on. Well I found out that my Radeon and my Audigy are on the same IRQ 10. Then I checked some more and found out that my onboard and Lan card are both on IRQ 11. Does anyone know if that could be the problem? And if so how can I change the IRQs so they would be diffrent? Thanks again.
