XP Pro printer problem

😕 I have a HP 712 printer, When I connected it to my XP Pro machine I can't get it to print in grey scale or econo fast modes. It works just fine on my Win 98se computer. I tried a couple of different drivers but no difference. XP does'nt want me to use the driver that came with it.
 
HP has not produced xp drivers for many of its printers that pre-date xp. XP has some more generic drivers that usually work but don't support all of the original features.
