If you have no need for 4GB of memory, and have no 64-bit applications, I would skip x64 for the time being. Even with Vista delayed until 2007 it would probably be better to wait. Drivers for most common hardware should be fairly easy to find (or are already included) but apps may have some trouble. Specifically utilities like AV, firewall and the like. Though there are 64-bit versions available.

Bottom line, IMO; If you have XP 32-bit, just use it. If you need to buy an OS, and don't have any unusual hardware and don't mind a lil work to find applications for security and the like, go for x64. Either way, you shouldn't have to do too much extra.

XP Pro...X64 will only give you hassles you shouldn't have to worry about.

It's pointless to run x64 unless you run 64bit programs which I doubt you due to there isn't many.

isn't there pretty bad driver support anyways? I was just thinking MAYBE Windows x64 was just made to make money for vista.

I happen to still run WinXP x64 on one of my boxes. Stick with WinXP x32. The 64 bit version offers no appreciable advantages over it's 32 bit counterpart.

I dont see why everyone is against x64 in this thread.

I would say to approch it the other way around. Unless you have a reason to stick with x86 (i.e. driver support) than run x64, no point in limiting yourself moving forward unless you have a reason.
