XP Pro, Messenger and .NET/passport question...

So, I reinstalled XP last weekend, and last night got round to setting up Messenger with my hotmail account info, and adding contacts etc.

I double click messenger and it brings up all the stuff about .net and passport accounts, so I type in my hotmail address and password and the wizard finishes. It then says something like "Your windows XP account is now set up to use your .NET [or passport, cant remember which] account". Can anybody shed some light on what this means and what, if any, difference it makes?

Thanks in advance.

It means you just gave M$ permission to spy on you.:Q

Your Hotmail acct. is also a Passport acct., which M$ thinks is a great thing, as it allows you to use one username/passwd for multiple websites and other things (MSN Messenger.) Of course the problem is, very few sites use .Net and Passport, so aside from Messenger and Hotmail, a Passport acct is worthless. Just another M$ excuse to collect your personal info and surfing habits.

If Bill Gates had his way (and it was possible), he'd buy the whole d@mn Internet, sell it to us for $29.99 a month, and sell all our personal info to whoever wanted it.

No...I think you were thinking of AOL 😉
