I have a Dell PowerEdge SC400 with XP Pro thtat is running 4 1/2 minutes slow. I adjusted the clock 10 minutes ahead last night and when i turned on my computer this morning the clock is 4 1/2 minutes slow again. Dell sent me a brand new motherboard but the problem still persist. Any suggestion?

here is something i found for windows 2000 that may or may not be the same thing you have going on: LINKAGE thats for nav 2000 but i assume if it could be a problem with one version im sure it could happen to another. also, turn off Advanced Power Management in your BIOS if you have it running there and let windows manage your power management. since you are on your second motherboard i think this is more of an issue that is software related or something set up in the bios. good luck and let me know if any of this helps!

HAHAHAHAH THEY SENT YOU A NEW MOTHERBOARD!!! Holy crap. Two simple tests....put it in the bios, set the time right, leave it overnight. It will be fine the next day, now you have a software problem. Next, boot XP into safe mode....leave it overnight...it will be just fine as well. You have a software issue, and it is probably norton. Man, I would fire the person that sent a motherboard if i still worked there.

are you running norton anti virus by any chance?

Yes, I am! NAV 2002!

I'm not aware of any issues like this with NAV 2002 (I'll go double check, however). But, just in case grab the latest Symevent from the Symantec web site and install, see if this resolves the issue.

I am aware of all kinds of issues like that with norton products. I ran into it daily while at dell. Easily half of all time issues were norton related. Of course, you probably will not find that listed on their site, because it was never really fixed properly.

I uninstalled NAV but no dice. I have also gone into the bios and set the correct time & date also no dice. The 4 1/2 minutes slow down happens within an hour of adjusting the correct time. I will try the safe mode trick while I away for lunch.

Like i said, you can easily make sure it isn't a hardware problem by setting time in the bios, rebooting back into bios, and let it sit there (No OS needed). If the time is right, your hardware is fine.

Loaded in safe mode and the clock kept correct time therefore it is a software issue. Now to find out which software is causing this. I really don't want to reinstall Windows.

No, half of Dell's problems aren't Norton related. Sheesh. Looks like it's not related at all to this issue. So, instead of blaming us, why don't we try to figure out whats really going on.

What are you talking about? In my experience, about half of all TIME RELATED issues were caused by norton. Did you do my job? No? Then perhaps you should not tell me how it was. And what is this "blaming us"? Who is the "us"? Of course most of Dell's problems were not norton related, most of their problems are from either crappy support and products, or stupid customers.
