xp-pro install. "windows explorer" error

Same disc ive been using forever
on a frineds puter.
has 800mhz duron
512mg ram

Im thinking processor...

I turn it on. posts fine. login to windows. then 10 or so seconds of sitting brings up "windows explorer" has had a error and needs to shut down. it restarts it and the task bar disappears. It then comes back and does it again..

Pissing me off dearly

Could be scratched then, or dirty.

Or maybe it's a HDD or memory error causing a few bad bytes in the install.
