i have read many threds about this

im currently running into this problem with XP MCE 2k5

i was able to fix problem before when i first came across it installing XP pro, jsut changin gout the drive to an older drive fixed it.

however it did not in this case. im sure the media is junk.

this is what im going to try:
pay $10 and get cleaning kit clean cd rom lens, someoen said to wash the media under warm mater and non abrasive soap and pat drive with towel.

then im going to try and burn it as slowest speed possible

i try to copy file I386 to my hard drive to make a copy of this and it has a problem reading it, so im sure its the disk, i tried to install on two systems and it gave me that same error, but im able to load XP on both computers fine.

In ur case, try and find someone with XP pro - you should try downloadin gmissing iso and create your own cd.

ISO

check disck with this

im convinced its the media - cheap bastards!

Great to hear! That's gotta be the problem with mine. It appeared physically flawless, but after pulling the disc out from another attempt myself last week, the cheap-o, generic CD-ROM tore it up! DEEP scrapes completely around the last 1/4" of the disc at the edge. I got an RMA from NewEgg that I'm sending out today and a new CD-ROM drive to replace it. I'll know for sure next week.

Sorry I haven't checked in and thank you all for your great responses! I've been busy as hell adjusting to a new job and haven't had time to work on this problem. Luckly, this church that it belongs to let me take the system home to finish it- they don't need it until May, but I'm finishing it this month.
