XP: Printing process problem (it eats all processing power)

Everytime I try to print using XP and my HP DeskJet 680C printer, the "System" process uses all processing power I have and the computer becomes really slow. Anyone has ran into this issue? Is there a solution to it?

Is your printer on parallel port? I have heard and experienced that printing to a parallel port printer can significantly slow down your computer.

How do I allocate an IRQ to the printer? There are no better drivers, this is an old printer. HP didn't do new drivers for it.

In Device Manager, go to the LPT1 Properties, to the Port Settings tab. You will see options about using interrupts. Try the other selections.

When your computer boots, access the BIOS and under the Peripherals tab, make sure the printer port is set for ECP+EPP. If it is set for Standard, this can be slower than snot. Some printers don't work correctly with ECP, so just try EPP, either 1.9 or 1.7. EPP is also much faster than just plain standard.

I like using USB with my Epson printers. In fact I can print complex print jobs to both printers at the same time and not notice hardly any slowdown in the computer.

Well, It was already set to ECP+EPP in the BIOS, I just configured Windows to use the IRQ. But even like that it's still hitting 100% CPU Usage. Any other thoughts?
