A friend of mine bought a used computer did the updates and ended up with a message back from microsoft saying he was using an unregistered copy of xp.
He would like to continue usng xp what are his options?
Someone was saying he could download the security patches and keep using xp
I guess xp isn't open source software yet😉

I think he can do basic security patches, but I would say to get a licensed copy. I doubt MS would go after a sngle user, but then it is MS afterall.

He can continue to use automatic downloads for critical updates only, but he should purchase a legal copy.

Report the person who sold him the computer and get a free copy! (I think you have to have a receipt for the free copy, otherwise I think its half price)

That applies to copies purchased from stores that turn out to be pirated, not from private parties...

Simply click on Tools, Manage Add Ons and find the Authetic Advantage java script. Select and click on disable. After that ther will be no problem with updates.
