Can i use 2 XP 1800 in a Dual board
Do MP procs need to be the same stepping?
just doing some up grade planning any thoughts.

u have to use mp's the xp doesn't have the coding. the mp is also factory unlocked so ocing is easy
use the same spd chips

Normally XP's work fine in a dual board. There has been some talk about the latest XP's (2100+) being MP locked and the possibility of getting around that by connecting some traces like you do to unlock the multipliers but I don't think the ship is in on that one yet since there aren't many 2100's out yet.

A couple of review sites recently mentioned that 2 XP2100+'s wouldn't work whereas 2 1800's and 2 1900's worked fine in the same board.

2cpu.com is a good source for such info.

Ah, that makes some sense. 🙂 I guess the odds are bad of having dual TBred AthlonXP machines without doing anything special to the chips. 🙁

Not true and not true. XP's will work in most dually boards (2 XP's running fine in a Tyan Tiger MP here) and they are also not multiplier unlocked. MP's don't, however, have the laser pits cut into the L1 bridges allowing for easier unlocking.

Acutally, the info that is out now by a number of sites is that all of the new XP's, even the slower ones, have one of the L5 bridges cut which keep it from working in SMP mode. (you can reconnect it like the L1's if you want) Without connecting the bridge, these chips will not work on a 760MPx motherboard. Don't know if anyone has tested them on a 760MP board yet. (Tyan S2460, S2462)

This L5 laser cut started showing up in all XP's manufactured in the last month or so.

Can I use my TB1.4G c conjunction with MP on dual mobo? Is it really allowed (althrogh there would have penalty in performance)?
thx

Can you post a link. I've bought several in the past few weeks and i don't believe any of them had what you're describing. I thought some of the reports of the XP's not working were a result of the MPX chipset and not the XP itself.

Here's one I had bookmarked. From Hardwarezone using an MSI board. Pics showing the L5 cut and stuff. There are similar articles on some other sites including some using the Asus board.

The motherboard forum at 2cpu.com has a bunch of info about this new 'feature'.

I know about the earlier reports of XP's not working on some MPx mobo's but that was a BIOS deal that was removed in the shipping boards. This new thing is an actual mod to the XP processors.
