XP or Hardware error

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D.
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D.

I am getting this error quite often and most of the time it causes my machine to bsod and reboot itself.

Im not sure if its a driver error or a physical problem. I changed video drivers, and the via 4 in 1 drivers. Nothing has fixed it. I even went as far as checking my memory with memtest86? and formatting my machine and reinstalling.

If its a software issue, what do I look for to fix? and if its hardware, what piece so I can replace it.

Thanks

Try to unplug everything off of the IDE controllers, and plug your boot hard drive into the RAID controler. Then set your bios to boot off of the raid controler (it may call it a SCSI device in the bios, but thats what its talking about) and see if it will boot and go without giving you errors.

I assume that the Ata Controlers were working fine before with whatever OS you were using before you decided to upgrade, so its probably an XP related driver. Search Abit's site and see if they posted a fix.

that seemed to have worked. putting my HDs on the hpt controller instead of the via controller. Haven't had the error yet. Also didn't realize my ibm drive was udma 5 capable. heh.

thanks for the help. I think I'll upgrade soon anyways, but Im just happy to have a stable system again though.
