XP opens inserted CD VERY slowly

XP seems OK but in one respect it seems VERY slow. I was wondering if any of you see this and if it can be corrected.

When I insert CD's of files (backed up downloads) into the drive, XP seems to access the drive many times and then displays the contents. If I copy from the cd to the hard drive it seems slow as well. All else is OK and this is happening on several systems I have with XP on them.

One system has 3 cd / cd-rw drives and they all are slow. All else seems OK so I was just wondering if XP is trying to look at EVERY file on the cd to see if it needs to auto open an APP?

Any way to turn that off? In this case, WIN98SE seemed MUCH faster.

TIA

I will look but I believe win98 always set that on. Will see if it is on in XP.
