XP not recognizing second drive

Okay, have 2 Hitachi drives in RAID 1 where OS goes. Have a WD 120 GB drive that contains all of the data from previous install. No, the WD was not the drive that the OS previously went in. It was used as a backup drive. After this intall, the drive shows up in bios, device manager, and disk management, but not in explorer. Under disk management, when I right-click everything is grayed out except for "Help" and "Delete Partition". It won't let me assign drive letter to the WD. What is going on here? Just about everything I had is on that WD drive, help!!! Thank.

Is the data backup drive formatted FAT32 or NTFS? I thought that Win XP will only recognize NTFS partitions. Just taking a shot and giving a bump to the post😉

Thank for the bump, and yes it was in NTFS. This drive worked just fine before I put in RAID 1 with the Hitachi. It's strange that bios, device manager, and disk management recognize it. I just can't seem to access it through explorer or do anything with it in disk management beside deleting the partition.

Another shot at it🙂 is if the drive is configured right (set to master not slave). I like to use Partition Magic to see how the drives are setup and to format them.

Another bump and good luck.

The thing is, I don't want to format it since I have lot of data in that drive. The funny thing is, I put that drive in another computer and it recognizes it just fine, weird. Any other idea?

Well, I got an external enclosure with usb and firewire. Put in the hard drive. Same problem. The drive shows up in disk management, but not explorer. In disk management, when I right click the drive, everything grayed out except for "Deleting Partition..." and "Help" I am missing something, what is it? I really don't want to delete the partition. This hard drive contains all of my backup data, photo, and stuffs. Help please!! Thank.
