XP Not Recognizing Hard Disk ????

I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro on my computer and its not recognizing my hard disk . Its giving me a message saying that "Windows does not recognize a hard disk , please make sure your hardware is working and configured" in the Bios it recognizes it and I ran a Diagnostics on it passed all the tests . The only disk I actually have is the XP Cd , It gives me a option to install a third party raid / SCSI device ????? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

Hmm, I can't tell from HP's specs what SCSI controller they're using This is probably a case of needing the right drivers on a floppy. Did the system come with drivers on a floppy (if so, hit the F6 key when prompted right at the beginning of Windows Setup), or if not, can you take a look in there and figure out what SCSI controller you've got?

Ya mechBgon is right, your SCSI controller probably doesn't have drivers preloaded in XP. I had to do this everytime for a new Windows install with my 3ware RAID card so I just scrapped it for my latest build. Just too much of a hassle, especially if you don't have a 2nd PC to get drivers on a floppy, or either your new build or your 2nd PC don't have a floppy.

Drivers
SCSI usually has its own controller, and the drivers for SCSI are loaded PRIOR to Windows. That is similar to the way RAID controllers do it. The SCSI drivers for the HDD should be up front and loaded right after POST.

If this is a HP OEM assembly, that should have been done by them. If you added the SCSI, then that is your little red wagon.

it came from the factory like that I've looked for the Fujitsu drive and im unable to find it .

You are looking for a driver for the SCSI Controller driver, not a a driver for your Fujitsu hard drive.

I see two SCSI Controllers lin the list of Drivers for HP XW9300 Workstation.

Examine the boot process of your PC, looking for BIOS notifications from your SCSI controller. It's probably the LSI model. Put the drivers on a floppy disk and hit F6 during the XP Install process to add the controller drivers via your floppy drive.

hopefully this works. the hard part is finding the floppy disk. LOL Thanks for the info. Have you done this before? You guys are very helpful and I really appreciate it.

That should help - but there is another underlying principle here. As I read it, you bought your system with that SCSI configuration. It is supposed to work when they sell it to you. If not, you should take it back and make them perform properly. This could help others buying the same machine. IOW, if it doesn't work as advertised, they must make it good.

Vista likely has a larger number of built-in disk controller drivers than does XP.

That sort of explains it. XP Pro does not have built in SCSI drivers. If it came with Vista, why downgrade it?

Because Im having issues with some of my software Music Software to be precise.

I finally made it work, I had to download drivers for LSI LOGICS website. After that it was a breeze.
