XP not letting my games run :(

Hey guys, Im having a problem playing my comp games (Tribes2, Counterstrike). It is a fresh install of XP on a freshly wiped hard drive. What it does is...it will bug out in the middle of nowhere. Like in CS it will do this thing where when it freezes, it plays the same sound over and over again. And in tribes it will act like Im lagging and the game will stop, just like lag. UNTIL I hit cntrl alt del and it seems to run again but without sound.

System Hardware:

Athlon 1000 @ 1070
FIC AZ11 Motherboard
512mb Pc133 Crucial
IBM 45gb 75gxp (yeah I know )
Acer 20x10x40 Burner
Generic 56x Cd-Rom
6 case fans

Any help would be awesome. If you need more info please ask! I wanna get this problem resolved.

did you try the compatability on 98?

I originally had 2k on this system and it all ran great. No, I didnt run the compatibility, cuz It WOULDNT run for some reason

So any other ideas boys?

I'm having nothing but problems as well with a fresh install of XP Pro. The Sims keeps dumping me back to the desktop, Motoracer sound quits after a few minutes, & Motoracer2 won't load (something about a kernel.32 issue). Wheel of Fortune works but during install it complained about a missing sound codec. May be time to get the old Windows 98 OS back up and runnning.
