XP - Networking Problems...

Just reformated yesterday and reinstalled Win XP Pro. I have it set to automatically log on the "Adminstrator" account. Unfortunately, when I goto Network Places and try to access my other computer connected in a LAN, I get an error. Clicking View Workgroup Computers locks up the PC for a minute and then a message saying I don't have permission to access "gimp's network" (name of the workgroup I have setup). Any ideas?

Also another thing I am wondering, in the Documents/Settings file on the C drive, any way to remove the All Users file? I basically want to delete all this multi user crap and have the system log onto nothing but the 1 main adminstrator account, so any tips are welcomed...

I Take it u r the "Administrator" of the PC.....Just to make sure go in to User's in Control Panel and make sure that you are set up as an admin....also make sure the LAN is set on "Static" Ip's and the DNS is the same. and if the computer has a firewall make sure it is not blocking you from accessing the computer...

I Hav XP Corp and it is fine with my LAN....Took about 5mins to set up 😛 n it works FINE 🙂

Hope this help you 🙂

It took me 5 minutes to setup earlier on previous installs..
I'll try those tips out.. er wait, I think it might be BlackIce blocking me out - didn't realize that.

The Firewall i would Surgest for Networks would b Zone Alarm PRO!!!! as it is REALLY easy to set a network up with. I had loads of probs with Sygate Personal Firewall...

(BTW Zone alarm will piss you for about a week or so as it will KEEP POPING UP EVERY 5 MINS 😡 😡)

Nuked the firewall but I am still having problems.
I can get into the View Network Workplaces but when I do, its just a blank window. The "Gimp's Network" I created shows but this computer or the other one connected to the network isn't listed. Any ideas?

Both got the same DNS, Both on Static Ip's, Both on the Same "Workgroup"? and the good old Firewall 😛

I've had this problem a couple of times. Win XP's network is very picky. Some of your drive letters may have changed. My best advice is to re run the network configuration and delete the old setup.

Both are on the same workgroup. They both got static ips and DNS is set to assigned by ISP. Always worked before on that setting and worked fine before I reformated.

I tried rerunning that Network config tool 3-4 times with different workgroups etc but can't seem to get it to work dang it. The other PC is running Win2k.

lets go bak 2 basics 🙂

Both plugged in....both network cards are installed corectly...... 🙂

is the Subnet Mask both the Same? set both 2 255.255.255.0 just 2 make sure. and uninstal the firewalls n get it runnin wiv out firewalls first.
