XP Network Wizard Crashes Comper

I built my wife a new computer and put it in place of her old computer that served as our server/internet connection on our small home network. We have DSL thru phone lines with usb modem and cat 5 to a hub that connects to one desktop and a wireless access point. The setup is exacting the same as before except for her new computer with a legal copy of Windows XP Pro with all the updates. Every time we run the network wizard on XP it crashes her computer. I have tried to unplug the cat 5 cable and setup file sharing on her computer prior to running network wizard, but no dice it crashes her desktop. I am not a rookie at this and have built many computers for friends and family over the years but I must say I have no idea what is going on with this problem. Is there some new update that MS has determined that we can't live without that's got me screwed?
