XP mode network drive shortcuts on Win7 desktop?

We're using Pathworks at work to map XP network drives to VMS machines. We have been mandated to upgrade the systems to Windows 7, which Pathworks does not run native on. I've installed XP mode, and can create mapped drives.

I need to know if it is possible to create shortcuts to the XP mode mapped network drives onto the Windows 7 host desktop, or will a user have to boot up the virtual machine every time they wish to access the network drive mapping?
 
The XP-Mode is like an interdependent computer, if it is Not on the Mapped drive will come up with "No able to connect" error.

You can drag a n icon to the XP-Mode onto the Desktop and put it next to the Mapped drive to serve as a reminder to switch on the XP-Mode.

When closed with Hibernation XP-Mode comes up and it is operational in about 20 sec.

If the Host computer is loaded with enough memory the XP-Mode can be started at boot, and sit minimized on Taskbar waiting for action.

Thanks. My original intention was to make this about as user friendly as possible...the average user here at work would probably scream at me if I told them they would have to deal with 2 separate OS on the same box. I was mainly trying to just give them a icon on the desktop which would take them to the mapped drives as a native Win XP box would. 😉
