I recently upgraded from Win 2k to XP and have noticed that the time from the Windows chime to a pojnt where I can click on something and get a response has lengthened. Or is it because XP loads to the Windows chime quicker only to take longer post chime?

I'm not sure, but most people seem to have a faster boot time in XP from when you hit your power button.

You are right the time from power up to the Windows desktop is quicker but then it slows down. Perhaps you could try double-clicking on something as soon as you get the desktop and a steady cursor. I do and I wait quite a while.

bump on bootvis. I found it when looking at it on www.tweakxp.com, and after I told it to optimize my system, it loads 10 seconds faster now. I completely load windows and all drivers in 16.99 seconds or less.

My boot time in XP is much quicker all the way around than it is in 2000. It takes no more than 5 seconds from the time the desktop shows up until everything is loaded and ready to go in XP.
