hey all,

my friend is having serious lag problems with CS after installed XP. That didn't happen before with win 2000 i guess maybe XP eats up too many resources or something, im not sure.
anyway does anyone know how to fix this problem?

make sure that shadowing is turned off in the effects menu of the display options. THat used to really lag my computer.

oh sorry i forgot to mention...
it's ping lag problem, not graphics wise

thats why im stickin with win 2000... dont like it very much its on my sister's computer

Okay, there is a known issue where XP reserves 20% of ur bandwidth. Here is how to fix that....
Tweak

1. Make sure your logged on as actually "Administrator". do not log on with any account that just has administrator privileges. To log in as an administrator:
-click on start->logoff->logoff
-in the logon screen hold Ctrl+Alt+Del.
-in the user field type 'Administrator' <-case sensitive.
-in the password field type the password for the administrator (if you don't have one leave blank)
-press ok

2. Start - run - type gpedit.msc
3. Expand the "Computer configuration" branch
4. Expand the "Administrative templates" branch
5. Expand the "Network" branch
6. Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window
7. In right window double click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting
8. On setting tab check the "enabled" item
9. Where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0-- Click apply, OK, exit gpedit.msc
10. Go to your Network connections (start->my computer->my network connection-> view network connections). Right click on your connection, choose properties then under the General or the Networking tab (where it lists your protocols) make sure QoS packet scheduler is enabled.
11. Reboot , now you are all done.

Thanks to Tweakxp.com for this tip

Hope this helps...i LOVE XP 🙂

lucky for you ... my xp system lags in general ... just moving the mouse around ... it randomly gets slower and slower and than fast again and i could tell it's lagging big time ... still can't fix it... ugghhhh ...

i'm just wondering about the qos tweak...if i don't have it enabled does it still use the 20%? versus enabling it and making it use 0%?

-merry xmas to all ...

same here. did an upgrade from 98se.. all my games that ran with flying colors suddenly became choppy in XP (BaldursGate2, The Sims, FA-16 fighter). ended up lowering the details of each game to less than half for them to work without any noticeable speed decrease.

this is ver frustrating!
