XP Key Changer

My uncle upgraded his windows me machine to windows xp with an "acquired" disc... I talked to him and told him that if he ever did the windows updates he'll be locked out of his computer. I actually have a legitimate copy that I can give him, but he doesn't want to go through the process or re-installing all his apps etc...

From you're experience do these "windows key changers" work? and can I use it in this situation to accomplish what I want to?

If the legitimate copy you're giving him is not installed on a computer and activated, the XP key changer should work. Just use enter key found in the COA (certificate of authenticity) and activate it.

If his install was the same version as yours then it should work, if he used a "acquired" volume license one then it uses a different key and will not work.

he will never get "locked out of his computer" and as long as he doesnt install Microsoft genuine notification tool he will get all critical updates and security updates.

I wouldn't say Never. Microsoft could make this happen with a security update flying in under the radar.

It seems like it can happen now. One of my Vista machines became "unauthentic" for no reason and the computer behaved very poorly until reactivated.
