XP keeps changing my screens resolution

I formatted my HD a bit ago and did a clean install of XP, everything is working great, however, whenever my computer boots up my screens resolution is different than what it was when I shut it down.

Currently I'm running a dual monitor on a Radeon 8500LE. Monitor 1 is a 21" CRT, and I have it at 1152x 864. The other monitor is a 15" samsung LCD running at 1024x 768 (which happens to be it's max res).

Whenever my computer boots up it makes both monitors have a 1024x768 res. It never did it before, and I'm not sure at all why XP is doing it now.

Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

thanks

Thats not XP, it's the fricken Catylst driver from ATI. For some reason it always forces both monitors to the same res on the 8500 cards (this machine with a 9700 if fine, the other one with the 8500 does this). I bugged this with ATI a few months ago, as I know others did, but no fix yet.

I work around it be setting a default profile in Ultramon and then having that applied at login time. If your running multimon you'll probably like Ultramon for the other features it gives you anyhow...

Thanks for the response...guess it's time for a new card. what is wierd is i had two monitors before hand and it didn't do this.

This may be dumb, but what is "Ultramon"? and where might i find this?

Your right that this used to work, it wasn't until one of the newer Catalyst releases that this broke. But, with Ultramon and a default profile you won't notice as it will set the monitors to the right res/refresh when you login.
