XP is HORRIBLE, how can you even say it's good

I've heard so many good things about "XP is the best, runs smooth - so reliable, I never freeze"

Well guess what, that's some BS : Let me name some of my problems with "Reliable - Never Freeze XP"

I noticed if I do too many operations at once, maybe select a huge list of files... Hey, I freeze!
If I download something that is over 50mb, guess what? You got it, I freeze!
When I have 4-5 explorer browsers open, I FREEZE!!!
Let's see, when I click on my computer with a CD in the CD-Rom... well, I FREEZE

Overall, I can't even get on my computer because I FREEZE so much... How is XP even good for ya'll, my computer is fast enough and no other problems on any other operating system

Well, that's my system.. there is no way it's something with one of those, just a couple reasons why I HATE XP!

Guess, what...there is a reason all those other people are saying it's stable....because their's doesn't crash.

Seriously, have you looked for the latest driver updates, gone through the knowledge base looking for issues you have or anything yet?? Be a little more specific about the problems you are having and mabye we can come up with some solutions for you.

OK, I have the latest drivers for EVERYTHING, it's not operator error cuz it runs fine with EVERY other OS (Even ME)

Let's see

DX 8.1 on XP
Via 4 in 1 4.32 or 33 w/e is on XP
Newest Vid Drivers
Newest Soundcard drivers
Newest Motherboard drivers

I can't even go into more detail, cuz I know I have the latest driver versions for it all, ALL supports XP

If winxp is so bad and you can use other os's with NO problems, well...go back to another os and quit complaining.

It's probably the way you set up XP, your hardware, or your drivers.

Fix =

1.) Possible general heat problems.

2.) Flaky power supply, not giving enough power, or more importantly, not a consistant flow.

3.) Running some kind of beta driver.

4.) Try a clean install of WinXP. FDISK the drive and clear all the partitions (you will loose your data of course, if you have other partitions). Re-partition and format the new drive(s).

5.) You drivers are not certified, beta, or the hardware is not compatible, PERIOD. Microsoft cannot support EVERY little component out there.

6.) Lack of speed doesn`t usually cause instability, for the record.

7.) If you have NO OTHER problems on "any other" operating system, then go back, cause obviously your hardware/drivers are not functioning correctly. XP is exposing problems with your hardware/drivers that the other less robust OS'es do not show.

You could even have crappy memory. I had a bad stick for a while, which was causing crashes and freezes for over a week. I removed the ram, problem solved. XP works wonderfully for me, and is even more stable than Win2k (which says a lot).

What were you running before XP, btw?

the only problem i have with xp is that sometimes, when i exit counterstrike, and it switches the resolution back to my desktop 1600x1200 from 1280x1024, it will freeze up as it shows the desktop and a small windowed version of counterstrike in the top left corner

other than that its never frozen or locked up

Been running on several different test machines at work and mine here at home and have no problems with XP at, except maybe how much it looks like Mac OS X.

Welp not really sure what to tell you, except ive seen several cases where a potentially bad hard drive that wouldnt work with something like Win98 would work just fine with Win2k, maybe you are experiencing some of the same thing only just the opposite. I for one have had a very stable eXPerience with XP. My system specs are as follows,

1.8 Ghz P4
MSI Motherboard
128 Mb rdram
Soundblaster Live 5.1
Geforce 2 MX 32 mb graphics
Diamond Supra Modem
Intel Pro/100 Nic
Sony CDRW
52x cdrom
300 Watt Power supply (I believe an enlight)
and im using mostly the drivers that XP allready had for most of the devices with the exception of the sound card which I needed the full driver set from creative to get the rear speakers to work with the sound card.
I know this isnt much help but I can tell you its been even more stable for me then Win2k and I loved 2k myself.

Are you doing any type of overclocking? What type of sound card are you running? What types of apps or utilities are you running? Those where the only things that where left out of your equation. I've probably broken every no-no when it comes to computer stability and I have not had an issue with either XP or 2k. Also, which OS did you move up from? XP treats some hardware a little different from previous version and maybe you have the wrong mix.

All I can say is it runs great on my system very stable and problem free so far. For the first time since Windows95 theirs a Windows operating system that I can say I really like, and I could only say I liked Windows95 a lot better than Windows3.1 and that's not saying very much. I find XP to be a major improvment over anything that microshaft has put out before. [Now if we could only get Billy to drop the activation crap all would be right with the computing world.]

Then everyone having problems with XP on Anandtech's forums are at fault? You cannot concieve of one condition in which the weakness, the fault's origin, is the operating system's manufacturer? What drugs are you on, and how can I get some? Earth to dave8311, NO SOFTWARE COMPANY IS THAT GOOD. And Microsoft has a history of releasing buggy operating systems. If they had no problems, no weaknesses, etc. then they would have no need to Service Packs. Oh, Service Packs are added features, right? And which little pill made that the conclusion?

Its not really the software or users fault. Theres just so many configurations that nothing is perfect. But XP does run fine

Yeah, XP runs much better than win98 did, I like it much, runs all my games too, unlike 2k. It can slowdown if you try to do lots of things at once, but it doesnt crash for me. Heck use linux if you want rock solid stability, or quit whining

Yes Xp is stable but runs very slow especially with any game (yes had all xp sound, viedo , etc....) . As soon as I load XP my 1.0 T bird system took a 20% percent overall performance hit. So I went back to 98se and my system runs about 20% faster again ? Oh well I give XP another try when I upgrade to amd xp 1600 w/ geforce 3. maybe that will help?

a friend of mine had software issues running blackice etc... once he removed these no problems
with freezing.
Might be software compatibility issues?
