xp is awesome

just thought id let everyone know that xp is insane

it does everything for you! fresh format, no looking for network card drivers! ah the goodness!

the only devices I have seen with no built-in winxp support are generic modems, which can be a pain

but it is nice not having to worry about nic/scsi drivers and being able to hear the startup sound and view windows in full color on first boot.

either you are just poking a little fun at winxp or you are some little kid who just figured out how to use linux

If he learned how to use Linux there's a reason he now thinks XP is fat and bloated =)

its true, but does he just search out every post about windows xp and put it down? if you want to use linux thats great, but it isnt necessary to go crap in every thread that talks about a microsoft OS.

<< nope windows xp sucks the fatty, bloated and horrible with any and all hardware >>

No he must not know how to configure it!

<< If he learned how to use Linux there's a reason he now thinks XP is fat and bloated =) >>

Hay linux is alright but for a desktop computer ( surfing the net and playing games banking etc.......) windows by far leaves linux in the dust, and windows XP is the best option out there right now! So BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA go play in the terminal already!

until something changes drastically in the pc game industry, linux is not even close to ready for gamers. that is what is keeping me from using it on my main system.

That's why I have a PS/2 and a friend with all the rest of the consoles, the only PC game I really play is q3.

i think you may be a minority on these forums =)

i dont think i even need to say anything in defense of pc gaming

I'm used to being in the minority, I'm middle-class and white after all =)

And I know there's a lot of PC gamers, but I still think it's stupid to buy a PC just for gaming.

<< you gotta try OS X >>

I have to agree with that. But as far as Windows is concerned, XP is a great enhancement of the Win2k base. Not as big of a leap as 3.1 to 95, but still significant.

If you have an Audigy card you gotta download new drivers to get it to work.
Atleast I did. Other than that XP is oh so sweet so far.

I had no problem with Audigy and WinXP it worked from the start, anyway I`ve to agree XP is probably the best OS Microsoft have released so far,I`m real happy all my favourite games work fine in WinXP as well.

🙂

i guess xp is awesome... if you are willing to sacrifice memory and processing time for pretty graphics and useless transition effects.

i guess xp is awesome... if you havent tried OSX or Linux.

i guess xp is awesome... if you think a rehashed (read gui enhanced) product pushed unto the market by a monopolist in order to turn a profit at the expense of its users.

i use xp for my gaming box. but im certainly not impressed with it. windows 2000 was a good product, very reliable (for windows) and a good step in the right direction. but xp is trash, it reconfigures your preference after every update (no microsoft, i wont run MS Messenger). im realy thinking about downgrading to win2k.

ohh, xp screws up mouse acceleration for games.

With the speed of computers these days, i dont think a whole lot is being sacrificed. Heck, i'm only on a P3 and i don't mind it at all

I've tried OSX and a few friends have Linux... again, i prefer XP to both for games and my daily tasks.

Now you're just getting bitter 😛

It was a little weird at first, but i'm used to it and i don't notice anything at all.
Anyway, as for as the PC for gaming issue goes, i don't think anyone buys a PC solely for games, but it sure is why many people upgrade and is probably one of the top 3 reasons (besides internet and maybe word processing) that people buy a PC. As for me, i'm borderline hardcore gamer, and XP is great for me.

Linux will never be a good gaming platform.

If you think that a OS i good if it does all for you.. well.. Is it fun to sit in a car shouting.. yes.. the car drives by it self.. This is a lot of fun... Of cause.. every 10 min. I hit a great wall 🙂

I've run ...

ms dos (a few versions, with a few versions of things like xtree, xtree gold, etc)
macos (8,9,10)
win3.1
win3.11
win95
win98
win2k
winNT 4
winXP
linux (debian, redhat, and corel .. i wish corel would have made it)
freebsd
openbsd
netbsd
a variety of microkernels

And I can say, without a doubt, that linux is not in the top 4.

In my not so humble opinion, for the desktop I'd rank:
Win2k, OSX, WinXP, Freebsd

For servers:
FreeBSD (only above openbsd for smp support), OpenBSD, NetBSD, OSX/Win2k (tossup, both have their advantages)

note that linux is missing on both lists. 🙂

Why is Linux not as good as FreeBSD for the desktop ? What does it have that any other Linux desktop does not have ?

Mature developers. Look into linux kernels 2.4.10 (vm change) and 2.4.11 (symlink issues) for information about MASSIVE problems in a STABLE kernel.

FreeBSD is 3r337 😉

Immaturity exists in every project. Its a fact of life.

*not commenting on XP since I have never and will try to never use it for personal reasons.
