I want to install XP Pro in a second partition with Win2K. How do you import the files, and programs from Win2K partition?? Is there an easy way so you can run Win2K in the event of problems with XP.What I did was the following: I assigned to my D: partition XP, and the programs I want to run are on C:which is Win2k. How do you locate the programs in C: to run while you are on D:. I hope I haven't confused.

You have to reinstall the programs on XP. No other easy way to do it. If you upgrade 2k to XP, you can avoid this hassle.

What Bluefront said. Just reinstall your programs and get everything how you want it then GHOST an image of that partition. That way you'll always have it handy if something screws up. I'm sure more advice will follow...............

yep you have to reinstall those programs! When I set up a new pc I ushally partition in atleast two different sections one for the OS and the second for backups etc. ,I like to keep all my programs on the same partition as the OS this really helps when you reformat and reinstall especially if you have multiple operating sysetems!

As others have stated, you do indeed need to reinstall everything. However, as also suggested, make a disk image of your disks using ghost. What I've done is made a ghost of each partition on the machine I'm upgrading to XP, and placed it on a drive on another machine on my network (since you can't ghost a partition to the same partition you're ghosting). I'll leave it there until I'm SURE that I have everything I need from it. But this allows me to reformat the disk using a nice NTFS setup, and still be able to bring back all my files and documents that I do want to keep by simply accessing them over the network.

I think I will upgrade my win2k rather than start reinstalling. The reason was I startedto install Office 2000, and the system was not installing. I have a spare HDD that was ghosted, and I'll see how it goes. Is there anything wrong with this decision?

If you mean upgrade your Windows 2000 installation to Windows XP Pro I would recommend against it. Many, many people have reported problems with apps not working, instability, and other general wierdness after doing an upgrade install of XP. IMO you are best off starting from scrtatch and reinstalling everything.
