XP Installation Errors

I'm trying to install XP, and I keep getting this error...

Something about SXS.DLL having a page fault at line 0. And another error with .../Common/...*.man file not opening. I've used my own CD and gotten the error and when I borrow my friend's CD, I still get the same error even though he can install it fine on his computer. Anybody else having page fault errors and files not being able to open while installing XP? Thanks.

give more details on your computer! I tried to install XP (build 2600) on brand new Gateway (not mine, I would never buy a prebuilt machine) and it would not install. Even Win2K would not install. XP just freezes during the initial system check, and Win2k faults out with a corrupt hard drive message near the end of its install. and from what information I was able to get from this forum, some Gateway machines will not allow win2k or Xp to install on them. why? I don't know. but give more information about your setup first, like what cards you have installed, the CPU, the motherboard, the memory..ect...video card....did I say cards?
