xp install problem

help please! I have never seen this before! I can't get windows to install on my main system!
XP or 2000! when I am installing windows it will get to the f8 option in the install then stops.
I can hit the esc and end it but the f8 doesn't work to go on. the only way to install windows is to ghost it. I have upgraded my system and still no go!!

Please help

Why are you pressing F8??

you have to hit the f8 button in the installation process to then choose which hard drive you install to!!
