xp install on sata

I need to install XP Pro on a new system that doesn?t have anything on it at all and has a SATA hard drive. The problem is this system doesn?t have a floppy drive in it and XP Requires you to hit F6 during setup to get the needed SATA drivers from a floppy. I definitely do not want to have to go out and buy a floppy drive and or open my system up to just install one to be able to install windows. I'm sure there must be a way around getting the drivers off of a floppy. I would much rather be able to put the files on something like a CD or even a USB drive. Anyone know of any methods to get around this problem of not having a floppy and XP setup only looking for SATA drivers from a floppy? Thanks all 🙂

Yeah, you think you need need a floppy. But, you may be able to slipstream the drivers on to the cd. LOL@the irony of needing a foppy to install SATA.

I seem to rember seeing an article on how to make a xp install disk with hte drivers on it in the past for this sort of issue. I havent been able to find it when i need it though. arg :/

The article, I think, originated at the forums on nForceHQ.com. I'm pretty sure you can find its contents, if not a direct link, in one of the guides at msfn.org.

I've read the articles, but have you to produce an install disk with additional drivers.

I've installed WinXP Pro with SP-1 no problem without having to load any drivers for my SATA. Have you already tried to install without doing the F6 thing? Does it not work?

yup i went through the same thing the first time I installed windows so i know it doesnt work. Some people are lucky because sp1 has support for some SATA controllers while others they have to go the same route I do :/

using sil3512 controller on GA-K8NNXP-940 mobo with WD1200JB SATA drive.
