XP Home or XP Pro? (No, not the standard which one question)

Which one? 😉

Ok, not really

My main question is, XP Home came installed on my laptop, and I've been using it for awhile. I have 2k pro on my desktop. Enough of the background information!

I put 2k on my laptop for a little while, however, I had to remove it and go back to XP because 2k was super slow on it. I coulden't figure out why. Hard-drive access was very, very slow and it took around 10 minutes to boot up to a useable desktop. However, I really, really like some of the features of 2k, like offline caching of folders (XP home dosen't do this) and the extra security and tweakablility options.

I have been considering upgrading my laptop to XP Profesional. I am able to get XP Pro for somewhere around $99 because of my student status, but, I'm not entirly sure if XP Pro is $99 better than what I have right now...I'm having trouble deciding.

One part of me goes "Its too expensive!!!", then another part counters by "But I can cache files and folders to view when I'm not connected to the network (which I do...often)". That first part then goes "But its too expensive!!" Then the other part counters "But I like the enhanced security of it!" Unfortunetly, that first part shoots back again..."But its $99!!!!" AGH!! I DON'T KNOW!!!

yea, I've see that list...but I'm still not sure if its worth the money or not...

I really wanted to hear some other peoples opinions.

Right now, I've got all of my homework and personal data stored on my desktop. When I had 2k on this computer, I made those files availible offline so that I could use them wherever I was. That convienence feature is the biggest reason for my desire to upgrade to XP Pro. The security would be nice too, but, again, I'm not sure if its worth the $99...

Hey guys! Thanks for all the links. I'm loading XP Pro on my laptop as we speak (thank good for the academic discount!), since I considered my time and the nightmare of keeping file syncronized between my desktop and laptop too much of a hastle (and no, breifcase would not work)
