XP Home Edition HPQ (HP Laptop)

I do not have the recovery disc anymore.

My version of XP Home Edition will not work with the onboard sticker's serial key.

Do I need an OEM version of XP Home? An OEM HP version of XP Home?

Or... do I HAVE TO have the recovery disc, which is $15 on HP.com?

I would really rather do a fresh install, without HP's crappy software pre-installed from the recovery disc.

Get the recovery disk ? refine the fresh reinstall to your specific requirements ? create backup image.

That key is for an XP Home OEM version of xp. You probably have a retail cd. If you can get your hands on a generic xp home oem disc it will work fine.

I "obtained" an XP Home OEM CD (image), and it worked fine.
