My laptop pauses (with no HD activity) just after the blue windows xp screen finishes. My desktop wallpaper comes up, and sits for 60-70 seconds, with no icons, taskbar, etc. No HD activity. I assume it's network related....but don't know what. No other pc's on the network behave like this. No virusus, adware, etc present. Other than the long boot, the system works fine. Thanks for any help. Thanks...

Chances are, that it has to do with some program that you have set to startup with Windows is causing the problem. Go to MSCONFIG and enable Selective Startup, then go to the Startup tab and deselect everything that is not absolutely essential, which probably means everything. If the problem disappears, then return to MSCONFIG and reenable one item at a time, rebooting until you determine what the problem item is.
