XP free space ?

I am going to put 2 500gb hdds in raid 0. I was wondering if I should put more in so I have more room for my xp install and all games and all video and picture and audio prog. Along with that I wanted to know where in XP it says the percent of free space left on drive what should IT NOT go below?

no, you shouldn't do this, unless you don't care much about your data/downtime. Raid0 is bad for 90% of things....

Below 15% makes defrag difficult.

Although I'm a big RAID 0 fan I'm not sure I would raid 0 two 500GB drives with nothing left for redundancy. If you have 1TB of backup storage available somewhere, go for it. Otherwise put em as single drives and back one up to the other.

I'm also a big fan of having one large volume rather than partitioning up. There is a limit to the benefit though... not sure where, but 500GB is definately past it. I wouldn't Raid 0, or JBOD just to get both of those into one volume. No real benefits.

I would 2xsingle drive them myself unless I had 1TB of backup storage available then I would consider the raid 0.

well i have 6 total 500gb drives but I want to put my media on the other 4 I have one external drive 750gb and its full so I wanted as much room right now as I can for media (i.e. dvd movies and tv shows from pvr) I was just curious if that I use them it will come out to 931gb total and I usually used 40-60-gb before and I was wondering that if I wanted to in the future put more games on there would that be enough room. Idk I always had this idea that if the % of free space was below 85 it wasnt good.

below 15% free space, not 85.

even then nothing is going to crash, you'll just have trouble defragging (and fragmentation will become worse due to the low space).
