I was just wondering if anyone knows how or even if XP can be uninstalled from DOS, even when the previous OS (SE, ME for example) has been uninstalled already?? thanx
Format. That's about it. You can't "uninstall" XP from XP itself either, unless you did an upgrade and backed up the original OS (if this is even an option in XP). Uninstalling the OS would be like having the OS erase itself. You can do the same thing by deleting the boot files, but then the disk doesn't boot of course. You can use the "sys" command from a DOS boot disk to erase the XP booting part of the master boot record, and make it boot just to DOS, but this requires the file system be FAT32.
i hope this is just a silly question from curiosity and that you havent been prying for hours trying to get your XP system to be pure DOS just for the hell of it...or even for a good reason
