XP doesn't automatically log me in.

When I start up my computer, XP goes into the login screen where I have to click on my user name in order to login. I have XP Pro and I'm the only user on the computer.

How do I make it so XP automatically logs me in? I don't have a set password.

i am at work so I cant get into user accounts, but I am pretty sure if you go into control panel and then user accounts there is a setting there you need to change. look there, it should be obvious once you get there, may have to "edit" your account to find the option

You can also download TWEAKui for Xp or any of the newer versions (do a google on it) and not only will you get dozens for fun tweaks you can play with but in the networking section you have tick the area that says log me in directly with such and such a login name and passoword if you have it.

If not as the other reply here states I think there is indeed an option under your user settings. Orginally I thought it was actually a registry change you had to do... don't remember now as I use the TweakUI and I am at work as well.

Easier:

1. Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2. This is a shortcut instead of having to click on Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts.
2. Uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" check box.
3. Click Apply.
4. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.
5. Click OK again and you're all done.

that sounds like the setting - unfortunately at work I do not have any admin privigiles so I cant look and see what the exact setting is, just knew it was under user accounts

Did you recently install Netframework or upgrade it... If so that is why it stopped working as it adds a " Net User " to the system even though it is not seen on the login screen. The multiple users trigger this response from Windows XP.

If you recently added a usb nic [Linksys] and the accompanying software it changes the login registry , the gina.dll and the result is the login window where there was none before.

I've tried this but the computer logs me in as adninistrator. I have 3 logins.... adminstrator, my log in (administrator rights), and aspnet.

I can delete the adminstrator account and just have my log in left. Is it okay to do this?
