how do they have this protected?

if i have a hdd w/ winXP installed, and want to backup my stuff onto another hdd (this one i'm booting from), it says access denied to the documents and settings folder. this is stupid because it was my folder. i know the pw's that were there and stuff, but it doesn't ask me for that

anyone know how i can do that?

So, you're talking about your "My Documents" folder on one hdd that had WinXP installed.
You mounted that hdd in another computer & want to copy files from it.
Is your boot drive running XP as well? Make sure your computer can read NTFS if you used that FileSystem for your XP computer.

I am assuming though that you are still running XP - & it's more a case of Windows permissions won't let you see it.
Is it possible to just select the whole folder & copy it?
Make sure your user has Full Access permissions.

that's all I can think of, sorry.
