Here are my system specs first of all:
Alienware Area 51; 2.8 GHz P4; 1GB Ram(2 X 512 MB Samsung Modules); 240 GB Hard Drive(2 X 120 Seagate Barracudas SATA - Not Raid 0); Plextor 708A DVD+/-RW; Lite On 52X32X52 CD RW; Creative SOund Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum; ATI Radeon 9600XT; ASUS P4C-800 E Deluxe Mobo; ATI TV Wonder VE Remote Control Edition.
I have Windows XP Pro with SP2 RTM(Note: I had the same problem with SP1 also!). I formatted my computer the SP2 was released. Before that I formatted it way back in January, 2004. But the main thing is my computer hangs while I play video files...it sticks at a certain position out of the blues while the speakers repeat the last 2-3 seconds of the video I am playing...hard to explain, but its like an old audio cassette getting stuck in your audio player. Obviously I lose control of the computer and must restart everytime this happens. I think the culprit is my sound card/video card/tv tuner card. I had the same problems even when i had SP1 installed. It happens only when I play video files in any media player..WinDVD, WMP, Quicktime, Winamp, or DIVx. I tried deleting my codecs as well, but it still happens. I tried to overclock my 9600XT...could that be the reason? As far as I remember, I used Power Strip, but made sure I returned the card to default settings before i formatted my PC. Is there a way to know if my card is returned to factory defaults? Also is there another way to return to card to factory defaults?
Please Help!!!
