XP Clean Install Problems

Hello, first post, and it's a miserable one.

I've been trying desperately to install XP in DOS using the boot disk method but I always get an error when executing the XP setup.

I used the XP boot disk from www.bootdisk.com and I went to the *:\i386 folder on the WinXP installation CD, I typed "winnt" and executed it. The familiar blue coloured setup screen appeared, but with an error message:

"An Internal Setup error has occurred

Could not find a place for a swap file

Setup cannot continue"

Any ideas to how I can solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Lacking more information, I will presume you are trying to install on a new system . . . or, at least, on a new hard drive.

What was the HDD formatted to? If it hasn't been FDISKed and formatted, then there would be no place for the installation.

Apologies,

(I cannot boot off the CD, old system.)

The HDD is NTFS and has 900mb free, how much more space does the setup need to complete the installation?

Is this error just down to disk space?

Thanks for your help so far!

If your system won't boot off of cd you may be very disappointed in the preformance of xp on that system. ;)

Yea its between 1.3 and 1.5 gigs I forget heh. But since you only have 900 megs you're getting that error.
