so you are having multiple problems?

What is XP "HE"? Do you mean XP "Home"?

making several guesses I will attempt to clarify your problem (please take notes if you plan on asking questions in the future):

Title: Windows XP lockup problems
Body: Hey guys, I'm running Windows XP Home Service Pack "X" and it has the tendency of locking up after about 15 min. Generally about 2 min. before it locks up my internet speeds slow to a crawl (I'm using cable internet). I've run Windows updates and installed all the critical updates listed. I also run virus scanner "XXXX" and have ensured I am running the latest virus updates then scaned my HD, it came up clean. Do any of you have suggestions as to what is causing the problem? Thanks in advance for the help!

See that wasnt so hard, help us to help you. We're here because we want to help, not because we get paid to do this.

If I got all that information correct my guess would be NIC related, have you tried looking for updated drivers for your NIC? Are you using a PCI/PCMCIA NIC or a USB one? Have you tried swapping it out for a differant one (differant chipset so differant drivers) and/or running it in a differant PCI slot?

your assuming it's the NIC , it probably is . that's the first thing i would check too. but that doesn't mean it is or that he doesn't have other things going on too. could be external to the comp. how is he hooked up? got a router ? a switch? other comps in the house going though th same equipment ? if so do they have the same problem ?
lots of variables

Lol first off im not comp illiterate. I do know how to trouble shoot. I have allready tried everything. I took my router down(it was only routing to my game cube and ps2 anyways) and no there aren't any comps in my house connected to my cable modem. I have it hooked straight to the comp now and still get locked up. I just put a new nic in here so maybe that is the problem. I'll be back and tell you guys if that was the problem.

Well it done it when I put the new nic in. So i was like F it and took my video card out which is a Ti 4200 and well it hasn't done it since. I just put the video card back in and if it does it this time I know where my problem is.
