XP and USB Printer Problem

This is a mystery to me. I have a 990cxi HP Deskjet with the newest XP driver installed and still UNABLE TO PRINT. Before I installed the driver, I rebooted and hoped that XP would recognize a new hardware connected to my system. The HP printer icon is in the Printers folder in the control panel. Right-clicking to the properties gives you the deskjet utilities. USB is the connection displayed on the port settings and when I tried to test print--IT FAILED! Augh!!!

Anyone experiencing USB connection problems?

(if this helps) Toshiba Laptop, PIII 850Mhz, 384MB, 20GB, GeForce2 Go 16MB Ramdac, CD-RW/DVD combo.

Had this same problem when I first got my hp. This is, what I think, will solve your problem. The drivers are really for 2k and xp, well mine were. When installing the drivers you have to go through and point directly to the xp drivers, I mean folder by folder, if not it installs the 2000 drivers.
