XP and promise controllers

Has anyone had problems with a promise ATA or raid controller and windows XP. I installed a promise ATA 66 controller and hooked by plexwriter to it and my entire system ground to a halt. Slow loading and mouse jerky. Anyone with similar problemsand a good solution??

Do you have the latest firmware ? Check this link. Are you using the appropriate driver ? Try using an alternate driver.

Also, I am assuming that you have either disabled or you dont have an existing IDE controller on your PC.
Sometimes, if you do and are using it, you may want the order of IDE controller detection changed, although
I can't recall how you would do that.
