XP and NT LAN problems

OK this one is driving me crazy, and has just started, I?m running XP Pro on an ECS K7S5A and XP 1500, using the onboard SIS network adapter, I have a small LAN and I access an NT server for all my files and MP3s.

Now my problem is when trying to move files from the XP client machine to or from my NT server, what it does is the copying dialogue box will show the files copying but they will not ever actually get finished copying, it will just stay up there like it is copying the files but never completes. There seems to be no activity on the lights on the hub as far as transferring data, it will copy the folder but not files.

I have uninstalled the NIC and all network protocols and reinstalled but that didn?t work. Anyone have any suggestions this one, it is driving me out of my mind.

<< I have thought about that but I wouldn't think the HW would just go out for no reason would you? >>

i'd try another nic first, and if that works, then at least youve isolated the problem.

since the nic for ur setup is onboard, it may affect other hardware, especially the rest of the PCI bus...

if this doesnt work either, then check ur memory next...

good luck!

OK this is getting aggravating, since this problem started I have reinstalled the OS on both the client and server (for another problem we won't go into) I just changed the NIC and network patch cable, another WIN98 machine on this network moves files fine to and from this server. Also there is no firewall turned on, any ideas? I don't know what to do next and I am not a network guru.

still no cigar, that didn't work either, what is so strange is the fact that it will copy the folder over just not the contents. And I can ping the NT box fine.

OK this XP box will download FROM either the NT or 98 box but will not copy TO either box, actually it will start copying and then stop after a few seconds.

I made a crossover cable and it didn't change anything I still can download to the XP box just not upload to the NT box. Another thing I tried was to make a folder on the XP box shared and and then logged on the NT box and pulled from that share and copied files to it. So this tells me that traffic will go to the NT box from the XP just not when I initiate it from the XP machine. What gives? This is making me crazy.

Ok I've tried everything I know to do, I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything multiple times, it has to be a network setting somewhere in this XP box. Any more ideas??
