XP and internet pics

WHen I try to save pics off the net in XP it trys to save them as *.jpe (* = filname), instead of *.jpg. Is there anyway to fix this to make it default at *.jpg instead of *.jpe ?
 
When I save a picture off the net in XP the default is *.jpg
there is a drop down menu with the option to save as *.bmp
Have you installed any programs that might have changed this? image editor? scanner software? Have you tried another picture? I'm not sure it's an XP issue.
