XP and CD-rom problems

hi, this is not a MAJOR problem but somewhat of an annoyance. sometimes my cdrom and cdrw both read EVERY cd as a blank cd? or jsut keep asking to inset a disk. the problem usually fixes itself when i restart, but i am just wondering why this happens....any ideas?
