I built a spare computer to use for school work, I have 2 classes, one over networking, and one on Linux. So I have tried to install Windows 2000 on that computer, and XP, both go thru the setup process, and after they are done installing the first time it tries to load the OS, it give a quick blue screen that says something about a memory dump, and thats about all I can read.
So I've tried installing each OS several times, but to no avail, so I tried installing Win98 and it works just fine.

Here is the system, P3 433MHZ, 256MB Ram, WD 60GB HD. One of my teachers said that the memory could be bad, and Win98 wasn't using all of it, thats why I don't have a problem with that. Is that a possibility, and if I don't know what kind of memory I have installed how can I find out? I know its 256 MB of SDRAM, but I don't know anything else about it.

Thanks for any help.

Post the STOP error code, if you want to test the memory download and use memtest86.

Well I bought a new stick of memory that was on sale at Staples, I installed it, and reinstalled Windows 2000, and everything works fine now!
