XP-90 + Zalman ZM-F2 in silent mode

Title pretty much says it all. Looking for a less noisy replacement for my current Coolink fan on my XP-90. Running a Winchester 3000+ at stock ATM, but I'm planning to OC with the same setup.


How loud is the Normal mode on that fan? Will Silent mode give me enough CFM?

I say XP-90 + Panaflo M or L BX. Use SpeedFan to control the fan off your MB header.

Believe me, I have done days of research on what fans come into question. I'm mainly a low noise freak, but I'm willing to give up some of it for better cooling. Apparently Panaflos are nonexistent in the entire country (can't really check as www.panasonic.hu is broke.. sigh).

Try Sidewindercomputers.com. I thought for sure I purchased two Panaflo "H1" 92mm fans from them, and I'm getting ready to deploy at least one of them.

I don't know about the Zalman OP-1 "slimline" "option fan" for CFMs. It does fine for cooling my GFX card and hard drives, and I really don't hear the noise until it's right up to its 2,900-rpm ceiling.

The 92x25mm Zalmans that come with their fan-bracket seem to be adequate, are reasonably quiet (Zalman's specialty, after all), and in keeping with their "acoustic specialty," doesn't come with a CFM rating. But at the rpms of around 2,900 maximum, I'm guessing they pull 80% as much air as a ThermalTake "Blue LED" 92mm fan, or close to 60CFM. I think that would be adequate for an XP-90 or 90C.

I'd just prefer to have the "headroom" of a Panaflo "H1."

I was thinking about posting a thread entitled "Fan-Bois, and the Myth of CFMs" . . . .

Their shipping to Hungary costs about as much as the fan itself. I'd rather go with something I can buy here.

I used one of those to cool a 3700+ Sandie at low speed with a 200mhz overclock at stock voltage and had no problems what so ever. I was idling at 35c full load reaching up to 45c.
Go for it.

One question: what mobo was that? More precisely, in what direction was the XP-90 installed? I'm getting unusually high temps with mine (currently 58 °C load), and I think it's because the heatpipes are on the bottom side and the liquid pools in them.

I am using XP-90 with my new E6 Vince 3000 @ 2.7ghz runs cool idle at 30c and load at 36c.

Bought it and hooked it up in silent mode: CPU temps are basically the same. Hard to get any higher from 58 °C though... anyone got tips on installing the XP-90? I tried probably every possible method of applying AS5, and I always end up in the 54-58°C range.

When you say "silent mode" how exactly is it hooked up?

Do they sell Nexus fans in your area? Nexus fans arevery quiet.

I'm assuming silent mode is with the resistor plugged into between the fan and motherboard. Zalman fans are generally not known for being very silent....

Found one place that sells Nexus fans, but it's brutally expensive (we're talking almost 3 times the cost of the Zalman). Anyway, I don't think the fan can get any more silent than this, and it still seems to provide enough cooling. The problem must be with the way the heatsink is installed.


Btw, just checked: temps go down to 45 °C idle. Does it have some sort of meaning if there's a 13 °C difference between idle and load?

I have a A8N Premium, i have the xp90c with the heatpipes facing the memory.

I also see the temp jump up roughly 7 - 12c from idle to full load this is normal so i wouldnt worry. Your athlon is quite hot, have you tried another 3rd party temp probe to monitor your temperatures?

Zalman makes pretty good fans, I wouldn't waste money on Nexus. What I would do however is bypass the Zalman fan connector and use SpeedFan to set to whatever min and max setting you want based on temp.

Just as I thought. The way your mobo is set up, two of your heatpipes are always in the "ideal" position, no matter which way the HS is facing. On my mobo, all the heatpipes are facing downwards, and I can't turn the HS around because the vid card obstructs the way.

Okay, this is insane. CPU's been running at full power for hours, and for the last 30 mins my CPU temps were around 45 °C. Is it safe to assume now that my CPU sensor is broke? My case sensor is definately done for(reports 10 °C), so I wouldn't be surprised if the CPU sensor crapped itself too...

All the zalman fans are real sweet fans and quiet also...

Not to be confused with the fan on the zalman 9500...which I hooked up to as power supply today...even at its top RPM its very quiet.....

That suprised me considering the scahing revire from SCPR...hmmm
