XP-90 Worse than stock cooling?

Just installed an XP-90 Saturday with a Panaflo L1BX.
My temps are actually 1-2 degrees hotter!
Applied with AS5, and was expecting better performance than this.

Has anyone else had any issues with the XP-90 like this.

This is sitting ontop of a FX-55 also.

Thanks!

You applied it wrong. Like albumleaf said, eather too much AS5 or its not making good contact.

hmmm...well there really is only one way to seat this thing and its clipped properly.
Maybe it could be the grease, maybe i'll try re-doing it.

Remember, you only need a very thin layer to cover the top, not like putting frosting on a cupcake :).

Oh so your not supposed to use the whole tube? oops....

KIDDING!

I'll re-apply and see what happens.
I used what I thought was a thin layer, but who knows.

OK, I read a post nearly identical to this in another forum today and just want to throw this out there since it seemed to find the culprit in the other forum...........

If you reapply and still have the same result....where do you live? Could it have anything to do with warming temps. overall? Someone mentioned that they had seen their temps. rise also and that it was directly attributable to the rising temps. outside and open windows but not warm enough for A/C yet.......Don't know where you're at but thought I'd throw this out there......

Well yes this would matter where I live...Las Vegas and YES it is warm....BUT I Also Just installed this in a CM Stacker Case with the optional Cross Flow fan, and my case temps are excellent.

I still find it hard to beleive it could be this...its not that hot yet where this would factor in.

I'll try re doing the paste and see if that helps.

Great suggestion though!

My xp-90 w/ AS5 only dropped my temps a few degrees, very disappointing.

My method when installing a heat sink is to first install it using Artic Silvers instructions to the letter.

Removing the heat sink to make sure that I have a good contact patch between the heat sink and processor and then going through the process again if everything looks good.

Really does not take that much more time and can save you from frying up stuff that is quiet expensive.

Just my two cents.

It very much could be a dud. The fins and pipes are soldered on, and they just may have been badly done on yours.

They say to let the stuff "settle" for a few days before making the final decision on temps.

There is also supposedly a thin layer of the previous thermal interface compound on the processor. Arctic Silver's new cleaning stuff is supposed to do a very good job of cleaning the surfaces before application of Arctic Whatever Compound.

You'll like the HS once you find out what the problem is. I have one on a Newcastle 3800 and it shows 29C system and CPU at 31C at idle right now which is about 5-6C better than I got with stock.

AS5 should be applied a very thin layer. You migth wanna check the contact. When i installed it, i noticed the end of the base of resting on the bracket, luckily i noticed it before powering up. The xp90 does considerably better than stock heatsink. It dropped my temps about 5-6C. My load temp is about 50C(room temp of 30C).

Well I disasembled and reapplied making sure it was as thin as I could go.
Checked contact and were up and running again...seeing about the same temps right now but i'll wait it out and see if it settles in a little.

Also is it possible I need a more powerful fan pushing on the heatsink, I used the panaflo L1BX thats recommended but there are more powerful ones out there I could try.

Just a thought.

if your getting those temps some of your problems lie in your case air flow... 55c is very high to begin with buddy, and 4c is not a bad drop for the obvious lack of airflow

Well an update...nothnig has changed. Temp haven't dropped and under load I am still looking at mid 50'S which is where I was with stock cooling...THIS SUCKS!

Could It be the fan? or is my motherboard just not giving me accurate temps?
I mean under Idle im actually 2-3 degrees warmer than I was stock and seem to be the same under load! What gives :(

No its def not air flow, as I stated I have a CM Stacker with the cross flow fan, my GPU temp actually dropped alot once I switched over to the stacker, no air flow problems here..

I lapped the heatsink and will check it out in a few days once the AS5 settles in.

I just installed my unit and I'm getting 44-45 C at idle and about 47C at load. BTW it is a lot quieter than the uint I replaced which was a Coolermaster Jet.

m21s,

How loud is the crossflow fan ? is it louder than the stock 120mm fans ??
