Need some help, I'm not the smartest with computers...
Trying out windows xp 64 bit is something I'm very interested in doing...just not sure how to prepare for it, and what I will need. But I DO know I should probably wait for ATI to come out with 64 bit drivers...

AMD ATHLON 64 3000+
MSI K8T NEO-FIS2R
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, Low Latency 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200
ATI RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB 8XAGP DDR
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 PCI Sound Card
Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive

Sorry this is not answering your question but I can't help but notice that you're using the RAM I want and a motherboard that I'm looking into purchasing.

An article at Tomshardware indicated that the system wouldn't even boot with that Corsair RAM. How are you doing with it?

I'd use a separate hard drive if you have a spare, or create another partition on your hard drive (PartitionMagic makes it a cakewalk) and then install XP-64 to the other drive.

On my A64 machine I created a partition with PartitionMagic and then installed to that drive, was pretty painless except no ATI or wireless LAN drivers.

I originally had Mushkin 512 Level 2 Perf., and I had SO SO SO many errors and problems (many many blue screen - memory dumps), I couldn't do windows update/direct x without it screwing up...reinstalled windows a million times. Decided to see what the problem was, so I took out a pair of 256 mb ram chips from my brothers cpu, popped them into mine....my computer worked flawlessly. So, this answered my question that the RAM WAS the problem. So I sent back the Mushkin for the Corsair... and I couldnt be happier...WELL I could be happier (with another stick of 512 ;) ) This all happened about 2 1/2 - 4 weeks ago (all the problems, starting with first building my cpu and finally getting it solved 2 1/2 weeks ago...) 0 blue screens...not a single problem yet! EXCEPT for a gfx error I had on Battlefield 1942 when I installed the Desert Combat mod...but that was fixed with the patch, so all is good. But now I'm tempted to try his 64 bit windows... I have it burned to a cd and everything... just don't know what else I need... I DO need to wait on some ATI gfx drivers for sure though.

partition magic...where can I get that, and how does that work? I have 24 used gigs with 52 free... if I used that partition magic thing, and I installed it on 'D' drive for example, how would that work with my current installation of windows 2000?

Partiton Magic. You'll have to buy it, but it beats having to reinstall everything if you use a Microsoft partitioning tool. The beauty of PM is that it doesn't destroy any of your data.

I have a certain folder with my important files i want to keep...I'll just do what I normally do...send them to a different computer... and completely reinstall.

What drivers and stuff will I need for this... besides audio, and besides waiting for an ATI 64-bit?

There's a link to the VIA Hyperions on the AT front page (right side), you'll need drivers for any other non-standard peripherals.
