I'm getting a new xp cpu. Can anyone tell me if theres a faster cpu coming out anytime soon so I can wait. I know about the hammer line.

XP2200+, it's the .13-micron version. Smaller die, less heat. Shouldn't offer much performance enhancement though.

I think it comes out in early June?

That's the T-Bred core right?

Yep

is the thoroughbred(sp?) coming out after the t-bird? and anyone know when this'll be and if it'll require a new motherboard?

The T-bird is the current pre-XP Athlon. It uses the same socket as current chips, and will likely only require a BIOS update.

Never count on a BIOS update fixing anything. Thinking that a BIOS update will allow a processor that isn't even in production yet to work on a presently available board is not very wise.

As an example, a bunch of people bought IWill KK266 boards at the recommendation of Anandtech and we were assured by IWill that a BIOS update would allow proper operation of "upcomming 1.5Ghz+ AMD Chips" (This was before the XP was out). The BIOS update did arrive, but it did NOT allow proper, stable operation with an XP processor. About 80% of users seem to report that the XP does not work properly or reliably, some can't even get the board to POST. Do not buy a board today and plan on putting in a processor that hasn't even been made yet...
