xp 2000 to xp 2400 or 512mb to 1 gig?

I'd go with the memory upgrade too. Get the highest speed memory you can afford so later you could run your CPU with higher FSB.

is the 2000+ a palomino ?

the 2400+ could oc much better if so
but still double the ram is hard to compete with

when all is said and done tho the 2400+ will give you a higher 3dmark score and prob more frames per second in most games

Adding more memory won't help you speed up your system if it's not being used.
I've never seen an instance where a home machine used up more than 512 MB.
You will not see a performance difference what so ever, if you're simply playing games.

You might see a modest improvement using a 2500 and do a 133Mhz -> 166Mhz instead of the 2400.

bf1942 uses 1gb, desert combat, simcity 4, etc. i too once had a xp 2000+, the 512-1gb helped in games. my cpu upgrade less so. this of course depends on video card, its the part you should upgrade first if you'e already got 2000+
