XP 1700+, 512 2100 DDR, Radeon 9800 NP (OCed to near-pro), bottleneck?

I just got a 9800 non pro, immediately installed the omega drivers, then OCed it to near pro speeds (375 core 310 RAM), I am noticing a large improvement in some areas but signifigant slowdown on others. The best example; Jedi Academy. When I am running around, fighting with 5+ enemies on the screen, I get a constant 80 fps (1280x1024, all graphic options on). The only time I get frame loss is when I jump or another Jedi jumps, so it might be the processor having to calculate fall angles/speeds, momentum, and so on.

Anyway, just wanted some second opinions before I drop another 200+ on upgrades. Thanks.

$200+? You can pick up a 2400 or 2600+ for about $100. That should be a decent, painless upgrade. But if you can OC the 1700+ and your memory, that'll be the cheapest way to reduce your CPU bottleneck.

Mmmm, but I have the money, and I want a DDR 3200 capable board(mine only does up to 2100), plus the FSB increase will be pretty tasty too...maybe I will try overclocking first, but I have the extra cheese to spend, and I can probably find a buyer pretty quick for my older stuff.

You need a motherboard and memory. Get an nforce2 board like the abit nf7 and some good pc3200. Run it at 200+ FSB and your bottleneck is gone.

Nooooo!!!!! Don't buy ECS for gaming. Get ABIT or ASUS or something. You will be much happier.

The Soltek single-channel board that Anand reviewed is apparently cheap and good. Give that a try, and pair it with a Barton 2500+ and fast memory.
